Description

The centre of this artwork features vintage doll parts and my own hand-sculpted polymer clay faces. They are lined up in a sort-of totem polem arrangement. The top head is a 1960’s vintage Sindy doll face inside a bottle cap. Underneath is another face in a different type of bottle cap with two painted Barbie doll arms either side. The centre is surrounded by a textured paper and fabric colage that is hand-stitched and painted by me. The background also includeds beads and plastic toy gears which are stitched onto the surface.

This is a one-of-a-kind creation. I don’t use molds for polymer clay sculpture so all facial features are completely unique.

Approximate measurements are; Length: 27.3cm and Width: 22.1cm

Materials included; Deep-set wooden frame, vintage doll parts, polymer clay, acrylic paint, polyester thread, embroidery thread, mixed fabric, paper, pva glue, hot-melt adhesive, plastic bottle caps, spray paint, mixed beads, plastic toy gears

  • I am a multi-faceted artist. I have been making various forms of art all my life. My days are spent putting work, passion and love into the things I do. I'm very experimental with a lot of my art. I like to improvise as I'm going along and let my subconscious mind express itself through different methods and materials. My art is the most important thing to me because it is my therapy. In times of distress and sadness I bury myself in creativity and work. I'm autistic as well as regularly suffering with anxiety and depression. Life is an uphill battle and since childhood I've always found that creating is my only true solace.

My most recent projects have been focused around mixed media textile art. In addition to this I also sculpt clay faces and either alter or hand-make dolls and anthropomorphic sculptures. Some of my accomplishments as an artist are; illustrating 15 children's books for author Chrisi E. Da Pavlova, selling artworks and handcrafted items on Etsy and Ebay for over 8 years, having my art featured in American author Tantra Bensko's book 'Word Swell', earning a First and National Diploma in Art and completing a year studying Illustration, BA Hons at Lincoln University.
