“My journey with Art in the Heart started in 2014 when I took in some of my work to the gallery in Peterborough to be critiqued by the Dawn, the Director. I was met with a string of questions such as: is that art or functional? How much is that? Why should someone pay it? A bit of a baptism of fire for someone who had never actually sold any of things he had made!
With the help of Dawn’s mentoring, I started to understand a bit more about developing and marketing my work and started to achieve good sales through the gallery until it closed in early 2018 when the focus shifted to the on-line presence. Initially I found the on-line world quite hard to get to grips with, but with Dawn’s help, I quickly realised the importance of good quality photographs and started to understand what information I needed to provide, to interest potential customers.
The Art in the Heart Marketplace has been very well thought out from an artist/maker’s point of view. It is very easy to use and has excellent user guides that take you through the whole process step by step, from creating a profile, listing work, processing orders to getting paid! It offers a broad range of unique hand-crafted products which complement each other. My work definitely benefits from the focus on quality and uniqueness.
I have also been able to take advantage of other brilliant Art in the Heart marketing opportunities in pop up shops, local magazines and the Art in Shop Windows project.
This has been an excellent platform from which I can display and sell my art and products. I am very pleased to say that I have sold a significant number of my pieces, more than from my Etsy shop. This I think has been mainly due to the intense marketing and support given from the Art in the Heart team.”

“Art in the Heart is a fantastic window onto many artists’ work. I have been with them since the website opened and have had successful sales of cards and also have seen my work exposed to many many people. Dawn Birch James is the most dedicated, enthusiastic and driven advocate for artists I know! Not only does she work tirelessly to promote and show my work on the Art in The Heart website but she also develops new ideas and strategies constantly as a way of attracting and maintaining visitors to the Art in the Heart website.
Dawn has encouraged me to present my work well on the website and gone through the process of adding work step by step with a keen eye on professional standards in presentation as well as selecting top quality artwork to display. The website is a collaboration between artists and the admin team and I am very aware that they can only work with what I give them, so as artists we know the responsibility is a joint one, supported strongly by Dawn and her team.
I have also had the chance to exhibit in the Art in Shop Windows Project in Peterborough where my painting was shown for some weeks in a temporary gallery window as an exhibit in a project by Dawn to use empty shop windows as exhibition space , both displaying art in the centre of Peterborough and decreasing the blight of empty shops in the town centre.
