Based in her studio at home in Tooting, Lucinda works as a professional artist. Her father was an artist, and mother a musician, so the arts were a strong influence throughout her childhood as one of 6 children. Her existence was almost feral, as she was left to roam the unmanicured landscape with friends.

Becoming an artist was a natural path to follow. Moving to London and living among artists, musicians and comedians in the 1980’s was a stimulating and exciting experience.

Her work encompasses a range of subject matter from gatherings of imaginary figures to portraits and landscape. She primarily paints with oils on canvas and gouache on paper. Some pieces are of individual figures, some of groups and others are composed of more traditional landscapes and natural forms inspired by the Wiltshire countryside where she grew up.

Colour is a perennial theme in her work. She enjoys playing with juxtaposition, using patterns and exploring the emotional responses she has to each colour and hue. She often incorporates elements of fabrics and costumes both from around the world and from history. People fascinate her. By using looks and glances between subjects in her work, she conveys moods and narrates stories. She is as happy painting characters from life as much as those from her imagination. Her landscape work conveys subtleties of feeling through light and weather.

Lucinda gives commitment to her audiences with more traditional commissioned portraits, regular art classes for adults and children, and community projects.

After her BA Hons Fine Art Painting Degree at the West Surrey College of Art and Design, she later did an MA in Public Art and Design at Chelsea College of Art, London. She has shown her work very regularly since the late 80s in prestigious exhibitions and galleries: The National Portrait Gallery; Royal Festival Hall, Piccadilly Gallery, The Mall Galleries (Royal Society of British Artists); Bankside. She has had solo shows since 2010 at the Sprout Gallery, London and has completed numerous important commissions notably for Kensington Palace Brasserie, for St. George’s Hospital Tooting. She has also won prestigious prizes for example 3rd prize at the South Bank Picture Show.

Her work is in collections all over the world.
