We have a wealth of experience and knowledge

Dawn Birch-James (MA Arts Market Appraisal) is our art business mentor and tutor. She was the Founder and Director (2012-2021) of Art in the Heart, with 20 years’ experience in education and training and nearly as many in art related businesses, on the high street, at international shows and online.

Throughout, she has been directly engaged in advising artists and makers how to market, and sell their work in different kinds of environments.

In her role as Director of a busy high street gallery (2011-2018), she curated displays and exhibitions, organised demonstrations and workshops. She rolled out work experience programmes for local students and adults, who wanted to re enter work. She also demonstrated competence in business negotiations with companies and the local authority.

Dawn has built up a wealth of experience in marketing and publicity. She has nearly 20 years’ experience in writing articles, press releases, narratives for artists and makers and website copy. She was also an arts contributor to regional magazine, The Moment (2011-2021). She has featured on BBC radio numerous times, talking about business and the high street, and has made several cheeky appearances on TV shows.

She has built up expertise in social media , including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram with regular Ads and email marketing newsletters. She has sold on most big online platforms in that time, and had her own e-commerce website 2006-2018. She founded and managed this multi vendor platform, namely The Art in the Heart Marketplace, which required a thorough knowledge of admin panels, dashboards and plug ins.
