“Semper Invicta” -19.04.2021
Semper Invicta is the latin phrase meaning always invincible. This came to mind while I was creating these faces and putting them in these abstract figural positions. The cracks , greyness and rough texture on their faces represent scarring/wear and tear. The plant-like stitching underneath represents growth. These details emphasise that although they are broken and cracked they are still surviving and growing with time. This is how I like to think of myself in tough times. These figures represent beings that have been through a lot but regardless they are still standing tall. The background is covered in painted and textured fabric including stitched 3-D elements. The colourful background represents hopefulness .
