Rosemary Dodgson Artist...the flower painter
My particular interest is in the drawing and painting of plants through the media of pencil, pen and ink, acrylics and watercolours, but I also greatly enjoy portrait painting using chalk pastels, where I specialise in animal pictures. I enjoy creating a diverse portfolio based on the subjects that inspire me. I tend towards very realistic representations but also enjoy breaking out into looser approaches every so often!
My background was firstly as a horticulturalist. I was a Parks Manger in the London Borough of Redbridge for 8+ years, following which, I taught horticulture at Capel Manor College of Horticulture, Enfield.
After this, my career diverted from horticulture but I was lucky to be able to continue my connections to plants through botanical art and I undertook the English Garden School botanical illustration course at the Chelsea Physic Garden, London.
I offer occasional workshops, undertake commissions and exhibit through Cambridge Open Studios. I enjoy interacting with clients and I have found that a remarkable number of people are interested in the background to my paintings, whether they are in a position to buy or not; which is great, as we all love talking about things that we are passionate about.
