Katya Timoshenko Art

I am a London based artist and work mainly with oil paint on glass and printmaking.  I oversee the print workshop as a senior technician at Middlesex University. This position aids my experimentation and tactile exploration of the techniques of the printmaking process.  There is an historical sense to this art form which sits well with my practice. My work is self-exploratory addressing conflicts with my alter ego and use religious iconography which has most recently influenced my work. Introspection has been a key investigation that helps me to reveal myself to myself and reveal myself to others.  A multi-layered facade of a world of emotions that touch on love, hate, frustration, expectation and inexplicable emotions even to myself.  This concept relates to the historical religious seventeenth century technique to express the idea of god and the soul through ones reflection. I enjoy the fragility of the glass and scratching away the media to create a shiny and smooth multi-layered surface which lends the artwork an organic and fragile quality.  This I find creates a reflection of the viewer that leads to a sense of self-investigation and the search for meaning through the observation of the artwork.
