£650.00

An Original Oil Painting on Canvas by Lucinda Denning featuring a Woman in an elaborate garment, with Felt Birds Dimensions: 50 x 71cm

Description

This Original Oil Painting on Canvas by Lucinda Denning was inspired partly by a visit she made to an exhibition at the British Museum about the Scythian people of the Grasslands of southern Russia and the Steppe. The Felt Birds are reminiscent of the 2.500 year old felt swan discovered in a Scythian tomb. The Birds are shown as decoration and companions. The colours she has chosen in this painting echo the natural dyes used in those ancient times. It’s dimensions are 50 x 71cm and it is ready to hang on the wall with a cord across the back to hang it by.

  • I paint, I draw, I make mosaics. I love vintage clothes and fabrics from around the world and I love faces, so I like to combine people and textiles in my figurative paintings. They might be wearing clothes and hats from my collection. My work has strong clear colours reminiscent of early Italian paintings. I also admire the work of artists such as Bonnard, Chagall and Matisse. Their bright colours and decorative playfulness chime with my own creative leanings. My work has been exhibited in many countries and exhibitions over the years, including the John Player Portrait exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery in London and The Spirit of London Exhibition at the Royal Festival Hall. I have work on permanent public display in St George’s Hospital South London. A recent children’s Television series ‘ The Secret Life of Boys featured my work prominently on the walls of the main location and is now about to appear in series 2. Series 1 has been shortlisted for a BAFTA so my paintings might be included in a BAFTA too!
