I started painting Tetris shapes in my twenties, dividing the canvas in rational ways, toying with composition, colour and application. Although most of the ‘Tetris Simple’ series was pure abstraction, albeit confined to a limited system of logic, the motif bled into other works, such as ‘Lobster Tetris’ and ‘Tetris England’. The shapes I painted took on metaphorical roles, in some cases embodying cash, in others experience, litter, food and excrement. Their tessellation became a game of sociological and natural interrelations: chaos and cosmos. Through this process my brushwork loosened, and I began to break out of the box, mathematically speaking. First I began to work in tens, adding miscellany, dropping in an occasional seven and so forth, and decided, therefore, a new phase was dawning, and for that it needed a new name. At the beginning, my ‘Polygontris’ paintings were just slightly more dynamic extensions to the ‘Tetris Simple’ range, but by the time I was working on this piece, the 22nd in the series, the floodgates had been opened and I was dividing the space into ever more elaborate structures, using increasingly versatile methods of composing them. The shapes became more irregular and natural, and the boundaries between the constituent parts blurred. The result balances bold colour with irregular form in a natural, intricate abstract tapestry.

I’m a trained technical illustrator and painter, devoted to the study of art, and have produced hundreds of pieces over twenty years.
I create unique, arresting, and often challenging images that compel with form and colour. My core subjects centre on man and his relationship with the universe, through the depiction of life’s minutia.
I largely work with canvas, brush, and acrylic, but will use whatever is necessary: oil, resin, dirt, hair, and even dead flies.
I am inspired by all art history, most notably impressionism and surrealism, but am also very interested in contemporary painting, producing a large body of abstract expressionist work.
