Description

This plant is part of a series of fine botanical watercolours that I have painted of plants whose flowers can be eaten; all of which have an enlarged dissected flower in the lower right hand of the picture. These were inspired by my love of painting, horticulture and cooking. This was the first one of the series and the fine leaves and the complexity of the flower were a challenge but very satisfying when completed.

  • My particular interest is in the drawing and painting of plants through the media of pencil, pen and ink, acrylics and watercolours, but I also greatly enjoy portrait painting using chalk pastels, where I specialise in animal pictures. I enjoy creating a diverse portfolio based on the subjects that inspire me. I tend towards very realistic representations but also enjoy breaking out into looser approaches every so often! My background was firstly as a horticulturalist. I was a Parks Manger in the London Borough of Redbridge for 8+ years, following which, I taught horticulture at Capel Manor College of Horticulture, Enfield. After this, my career diverted from horticulture but I was lucky to be able to continue my connections to plants through botanical art and I undertook the English Garden School botanical illustration course at the Chelsea Physic Garden, London. I offer occasional workshops, undertake commissions and exhibit through Cambridge Open Studios. I enjoy interacting with clients and I have found that a remarkable number of people are interested in the background to my paintings, whether they are in a position to buy or not; which is great, as we all love talking about things that we are passionate about.
