Kay Clark Painter and Printmaker

Kay Clark Painter and Printmaker

I am a mixed media artist and printmaker, specialising in dry point etchings. Based in  Peterborough, I work from a purpose built studio, converted from our erstwhile garage. I cannot live without art. Its deep within my soul. My more recent concerns have been landscapes, birds and human movement through cycling, but currently I am working on a abstract series, exploring the realms of emotion. I have been particularly influenced by Picasso and Piper. I have a keen sense of audience and through my interpretations of subject, I aim to reach out to and engage the viewer. Nothing gives me more pleasure than witnessing viewers experiencing my art and interacting with it. The ultimate is their acceptance of feelings and emotions during that interaction. I am passionate about abstract art. It opens up the inner workings of my psyche, and releases my inner senses to a world beyond familiar ever day subjects. It allows the viewer to see with the mind what they cannot see with their eyes. I have developed a real passion for dry point etching. The process of creating illustrations and expressive sketches, from hard and soft feathery lines and enhancing with watercolour is fascinating. It is a technique I have developed and honed and has become one of my trademarks. I am concerned primarily with lines and shapes, and from these I go on an artistic journey, where images, artworks, textures and movements emerge. I have a keen sense of constrast and tone in my work, and this can create diverse moods and visual effects. I love the tools making marks, the scraping, ink in the grooves, blotting, and finally, from the squeezing and force of the printing press, witnessing the finished product transferred onto the damp paper. Another image is created and born. I also love acrylics and mixed media- the vibrancy, colour and fast drying time of course. I often blend colours on the canvas, using different ways to slow down the drying time to achieve the textures and effects I desire. My work has developed from more realistic interpretations to current exploration into abstract. It is emotional and can be all consuming and even exhausting.
