My figurative practice can be seen to be quite destructive in terms of process. However, it can be said that the passive/ aggressive nature of the paintings lends itself to the very nature of the human condition.
My outcomes strive to question and reinvigorate the subject; its historical and contemporary context. Together with consolidating ideas of deconstruction; an act of taking apart and rebuilding. This may also highlight the deconstruction of conventions and what is expected from representational painting.
I attempt to emphasise process by exaggerating the application and meticulous methodology through thin layers of paint and blocks of colour. This functions as a way of viewing what was there from past layers, and where decisions in the reconstruction of form were made.
